Case Study - 'Nimble Designs' vs 'Donkey Studios'

Scenario 3 - Suspension of non-paying client account

An existing customer, 'The Athena Olive Bar', has yet to pay this year's hosting fee and is not returning calls and requests for payment.

Bob Nimble (Reseller Hosting)

Alter Account

Shortly after the suspension of the client account, Bob receives a call from George, the owner of the Athena Olive Bar, apologising for his late payment (which has hastily been made).

Bob confirms receipt of the payment, and reverses the process above.

The site 'athenaolivebar.com' goes back online instantly.

Additional Costs: Nothing

Dave Donkey (Conventional Third Party Hosting)

Frustrated by the lack of response from his non-paying client, Dave decides to manually take 'athenaolivebar.com' offline.

After spending half an hour digging out the login details of the separate web hosting account for the client in question, Dave discovers they are no longer valid.

Dave requests a password reset from the hosting provider.

24 hours later, it arrives.

Dave then decides to replace the front page of the site with a 'Website Offline' notice. He creates an appropriate page in 15 minutes, and uploads it.

Unfortunately, this replaces the original index page of the site.

When the owner of the site telephones to confirm that payment has been made, Dave discovers he must re-code the front page of the site (having mislaid his backups).

This takes 48 hours to complete, during which time his customer becomes increasingly irate that his site is still not back online (despite payment having been made).

Dave apologises and is forced to refund 25% of this year's hosting fee to placate his customer.

Time spent: 3+ days

Additional Costs: 25% of customer hosting revenue
